Like most football fans, we like to put on a little bet on match days. Even if the football in front of you is bad, there is always the chance that your bet will come in.
At halftime, stands are filled with fans, phones in hand, checking if their bet is up or not. Even at full time, when your team has just lost, there’s a glimmer of hope that your weekend isn’t completely ruined and your acca is a success. There’s sometimes more excitement waiting for that ‘one more goal’ for a team that you normally have no interest in than there is watching a team you’ve supported for years. More often than not, it’s also a time to stick another team on your shit list as they’ve just spoiled an opportunity for you to pocket 50 quid! (My most recent was Stenhousemuir)
Our bets have varied over seasons, from 100/1 long-shots to 2/1 ‘Bankers’, a fairly safe 4-fold to a slip as long as an unravelled toilet paper. We’ve used online tipsters, followed betting experts on X, researched form and even used a ‘gut feeling’ but most often, with little joy.
This season we’re going to do what most people do nowadays when they need help and that’s ask AI.
