The Scoring System

After our second hospitality experience, we had the discussion of what makes a good hospitality experience and created the scoring system. Our scores are based purely on opinion and often discussed at the end of the day after a few drinks. There is no check list, set criteria to meet or scientific formula, this is a light hearted rating created after a day of drinking. It’s tongue and cheek with no offence intended.

Entertainment

If you’ve not experienced a hospitality day at a football club, it’s more than just an open bar, meal and a man of the match presentation. We found that clubs offer various forms of entertainment on the day. From games and competitions to speakers and auctions. This varies from ground to ground.

Hosting

Every day has a host and this very much makes the experience. From your initial arrival to when you leave, the host is there to make your day. The effort that they put in is outstanding and their passion for the club is unbelievable.

Seating

This category is pretty much irrelevant to your hospitality experience. Your seating is not going to ruin your day because at the end of the day we’re not there for the football. We put this section in to make it look like the 90 minutes of football was a factor for us visiting that stadium. This is not the case!

Meal

From 3 to 2 courses to hot or cold buffets, this can vary from each stadium. We look at the quality of food and quantity. Steak Pie seems to be a favourite for most stadiums. We don’t care if they offer vegetarian or vegan options or cater for any dietary requirements because at the end of the day, we’re eating at a lower league Scottish football stadium and not a 5 star London hotel.

Half time refreshments

The half time refreshments can be more important than you think. After quite a few drinks before the match, you could do with something to soak up some of the booze. It can also help in psyching you up for the second half of football that’s on offer!

Drinks

Although it’s a huge factor, this is not just about how long the free flowing drink is on offer for. Is there wine on the table? Can you order a vodka and cranberry juice? The variety of what is on offer is considered and not just the quantity.

Value for money

Not all clubs can offer the same experience. We very much take into account the size of the club and the facilities they have available. There is no formula or scientific data collection, this is purely our opinion and whether we would pay the same amount of money again.
